If you’re in Tuscany do yourself a favor and stop by the beautiful medieval town Siena. Walking through the cobble stone streets leading to the Piazza del Campo is amazing. I know this sounds corny, but it makes you feel like you’ve been thrown back in time. While you’re in town, take the time to wander through the streets – you might come across something you otherwise would’ve missed out on!
You can find Mangia Tower in medieval square Piazza del Campo. It only cost a few euros to walk up the tower for the view of Siena and the surrounding countryside.
DUOMO DI SIENA
The cathedral in Siena is interesting and different because its made of striped green and white marble. Another cool thing about this cathedral is that you can take the Gate of Heaven tour which takes you up to the rooftops and you also get a view of the inside of the cathedral from the top.
WHERE TO STAY
During my few night stay in Siena, I stayed in this charming farmhouse. If you’re wondering how you can get to town they provide bikes that you can ride, or you can walk along the road and admire the vineyards and farms on your way.
Not only is this farmhouse beautiful, but the breakfast and dinner they serve is DELICIOUS. Breakfast is included in the price of your stay, but if you want dinner then its about a forty euro charge per person. This might seem like a lot to you, but this is about how much you’d spend on dinner out in a restaurant and the farmhouse serves so much food and wine that you definitely get your moneys worth! Dinner is served family style with the rest of the guests at the farmhouse (about 8 other people) and you’re served an appetizer, first course, second course, and dessert. They also accompany each course with a couple bottles of wine that’s made by them. It was a fantastic experience and it has to be tied for the number 1 spot of best food I had in Italy (tied with dinner from Bar Bruno in Positano of course).
This is what was offered for breakfast one morning! Of course, I had to try a little bit of everything and my favorite was the ricotta strawberry “cheese”cake.
For me, Siena was the place to relax and take in all the beauty around. Staying in the farmhouse made it easy to do just that and I would absolutely do it all over again.
If you have any favorite spots in Siena that weren’t listed feel free to leave a comment, its much appreciated! ♥
